Surveys/Polls/Quizzes | Unit 1

Can You Get More Than 15/20 On This Boring Trivia Quiz?

I was looking for random trivia quizzes and this one popped up from Buzzfeed. The title being "Can You Get More Than 15/20 On This Boring Trivia Quiz?" Despite not thinking it would be very challenging; it indeed was, and I only managed to score a 10 out of 20. The survey included various questions like, "In what year was the modern traffic cone invented?" Another example is, "Which of these clouds is altocumulus?" I feel like this survey may be based on luck or whether or not you really remember anything in earth science from back in the eighth grade. In addition, another question asked about what the metal or plastic tube fixed around each end of a shoelace is called. I grew up watching a lot of Phineas and Ferb and there was a song all about aglets! So, to me this survey wasn't that boring as it brought up the nostalgia of me watching that show.

To compare my score with others, I sent the quiz to some of my closest friends and parents. There was a wide range of scores between everyone. Some of my friends also said it was hard because it was mostly just random facts you had to know or guess about. The highest score was an 18 and the was a 7 out of 20.

Overall, quizzes like this including trivia are a fun yet challenging way to test your knowledge of random facts. And you never know when they could come in handy. It's also a great reminder that there's always more to learn and sometimes, a bit of luck can go a long way!

Selfies With a Social Conscience | Unit 1

Selfies with a social conscience embodies how individuals choose to advocate for social change. Unlike traditional selfies, these images or posts encapsulate ideas of a meaningful impact. For example, "selfies with a social conscience," aligns with movements like body positivity, and wellness. These "selfies" that individuals post on platforms like Instagram, or Tik Tok aim to create meaningful impact.

Another example is #beforeandafter, a social media trend where people show the before and after selfies of spaces they've cleaned up. These posts aren't just about showing their efforts, but to encourage others to take care of the spaces they care about. Some people may show themselves cleaning the side of the road, or beaches, or even their bedroom. These posts encourage environmental consciousness and community action. Furthermore, when people post selfies of their own rooms or home, it is inviting to make people feel less alone within their own spaces when they are a mess.

What I Eat Throughout My Week as a College Student | Unit 1

Let's be real here- college life, especially at the start of the semester can be hectic, but fueling up with food is always a top priority! Here's a peek into my week of meals that keep me going throughout the week.

Mornings: Who wants a heavy breakfast before an 8 a.m. class? Not me! I normally try to keep it light with some fruit just to hold me over until lunch time. It is super easy to just grab something you already don't have to make and a great way to get some vitamins in.

Lunch: By lunch time my stomach is angrily yelling at me to feed itself. My go-to is some sort of toast normally. In the picture shown you can see a slice of toast with cottage cheese and cucumber slices. It's fancy enough to make me feel like I'm at an expensive café but easy enough to whip up in my dorm. And, of course, I pair it with a crispy, cold Diet Coke. Because nothing screams "re-energize" me like caffeine and bubbles do.

Dinner: When it comes to dinners, I normally am around my friends at the end of the day, and we enjoy exploring new places or cooking together at home. One night, we went to Pastabilities, a Syracuse staple. Seriously, their pasta is worth every carb. Another time, we went to Tai Chi and got sushi burritos! They were definitely delicious, but honestly, not worth the price tag. On nights that we are not going out we enjoy making simple dishes like pasta. It is quick, easy, and inexpensive.

College eating is all about balance! Switching up what you eat and adventuring out is a great way for me to feel like I'm not in a repetitive cycle!
